id obelus arrives out of the midwest with a sound that truly resembles his surroundings. this student of forests and seclusion has turned his childhood into a wonderful collection of lo-fi sounds for everyone to experience. it's hard not to cherish id obelus' clear delivery of daily observations and troubling thoughts. id obelus succeeds in turning typical cliche phrasings into clever statements of self-fulfillment. the most fascinating aspect of the album is it's overall sound. the gritty beats come in and out in low tones that cast an overcast feel over the listener. the soundscapes are accentuated by id obelus' somber approach on the mic. the hum and hiss of this collection of songs makes you appreciate the way it was put together and the effort involved. you can just envision the artist in a home studio of some sort, in the middle of the night, recording while nature fuels his passion. the fact that id obelus has something to say makes repeated listens a luxury. the album is a superb collection of beautifully flawed songs that will have you anxious to experience the pastoral influence that is evident in the artist.
